Project Description

In this project-based learning unit, students work in teams to design an original fictional country, complete with a government, economy, legal system, culture, geography, and constitution. They will simulate their nation’s participation in a Global Summit, role-playing diplomacy, decision-making, and crisis response. This project is fully aligned with Common Core State Standards in ELA and Math, as well as applicable NGSS standards, and includes detailed rubrics to guide student performance and improvement.

Why Use this Project?

This project brings together civic literacy, systems thinking, collaboration, and creativity in a way that challenges students to think like real-world policymakers. Students learn how interconnected government, economy, law, and culture are while building critical skills in research, planning, negotiation, and communication. It’s a perfect culminating project for any government, civics, or global studies course and helps students apply abstract concepts in tangible, high-engagement ways. With detailed instructions, templates, and rubrics included, this lesson plan offers structure for teachers and authentic learning for students.
