Civics, Legal, Social StudiesProject Description
This project engages high school students in a deep investigation of how democratic justice systems function and how they manage (or fail) to deliver fairness, protect individual rights, and enforce accountability. Through research, team collaboration, and a simulated legal or legislative process, students will analyze real-world justice system challenges and propose reform ideas. The project is aligned with Common Core ELA standards and supports critical thinking, communication, and civic literacy. It includes detailed rubrics designed to guide and improve student performance.
Why Use this Project?
This project invites students to explore one of the most urgent and complex aspects of civic life—the justice system. It builds real-world understanding by allowing them to research, simulate, and analyze how democratic societies uphold fairness and rights. Teachers will appreciate its structure, flexibility, and alignment to standards. Students gain research skills, collaboration experience, public speaking practice, and most importantly, the ability to think critically about law, equity, and change. It’s a powerful foundation for civics, government, or U.S. history courses.
