Project Description

Students collect daily weather data for 10 days, identify patterns in their observations, and use AI as a learning tool to understand meteorological concepts. Through four guided AI prompts, students develop scientific questions, receive age-appropriate explanations, and make evidence-based weather predictions. The project culminates in presentations where students share their data, patterns, and understanding while reflecting on AI as an information source.

Why Use this Project?

Responsible AI Use: Students maintain ownership of their work while learning to use AI as a thinking partner. They distinguish between their observations and AI explanations, developing critical evaluation skills.

Authentic Science: Students practice real scientific inquiry—collecting data, identifying patterns, asking questions, and making predictions—while meeting NGSS standards 3-ESS2-1 and 3-ESS2-2.

Differentiation & Engagement: Individual pacing through AI prompts supports all learners. The real-world connection to daily weather decisions makes learning relevant and motivating.

21st Century Skills: Students develop data literacy, digital citizenship, scientific communication, and project management skills essential for future learning.

What's Included

Week 1 – Data Collection: Students independently observe and record daily weather (temperature, sky conditions, precipitation, wind). AI is not used during this phase—students own their observations.

Week 2 – Pattern Investigation: Students analyze their data to find patterns, formulate scientific questions, and use AI prompts to understand why patterns occur. AI acts as a guide to help explain concepts, not provide answers.

Week 3 – Presentation & Reflection: Students create and deliver presentations showing their data, patterns, and predictions. They reflect on what they learned and how AI helped versus what they discovered themselves.
